The Grollo family has been a great supporter of the Italian community and Italian culture in Australia. In 1999, Rino and Diana Grollo established the Italian Australian Institute (IAI) as a non-political, non-profit national organisation that promotes Italian heritage and culture in Australia. The IAI also supports research and highlights the contributions of Italians to Australia’s multicultural society. The IAI has strong support from La Trobe University, where the institute is based, and from community organisations such as the Associazione Nazionale Alpini (an organisation of ex-servicemen and their families). La Trobe University has a long tradition of teaching Italian language and culture and of research into many aspects of the 200 years of Italian presence in Australia. The IAI is also interested in today’s relations between Italy and Australia. A fundamental aim is to motivate and support younger people in Italian studies in Australia. This is done through scholarships, conferences and seminars, and the publication of research. Visit www.iai.com.au |
