Mt Buller is Australia’s premier mountain resort, located
only three hours from Melbourne in the heart of Victoria’s
Alpine region. The mountain has the most accessible skiable terrain
and excellent facilities.
The Grollo Group is the largest investor at Mt Buller
with interests in ski operations, property, retail, rental, accommodation
and food outlets. During the ski season, the Grollo Group employs
up to 650 people.
Mt Buller provided the Grollo Group with the opportunity
to pursue their interests in sport, tourism and education. The group
has developed excellent facilities for Australian and international
tourists; sponsored and developed a university campus; and established
the Olympic Winter Institute. The Institute is an innovative concept
in Australia that is dedicated to supporting winter sport athletes.
It has produced Australia’s finest winter athletes, including
Jackie Cooper, Kirstie Marshall, Alisa Camplin, Lydia Ieradiaconou,
and Liz Gardner.
Rino and Diana Grollo financed the first World Aerial
Championships at Mt Buller in 1997 and these are now an annual event
on the mountain. This support for facilities and events has made
Mt Buller Australia’s site for international and local sporting
competitions.

BULLER SKI LIFTS
The Grollo Group purchased the Bourke Street Ski Lift
Company in 1992, renaming it Buller Ski Lifts Pty. Ltd. Since then,
the Grollos have made a major investment in rejuvenating and expanding
facilities at Mt Buller to ensure it remains Australia’s best
mountain resort.
Buller Ski Lifts has developed extensive, world-class
infrastructure on the mountain, including superior ski lift operations,
snow making and grooming systems and skiing and snow play areas.
Today, Mt Buller has the largest capacity ski lift
operations of any Victorian alpine resort, lifting 40,000 skiers
per hour on a network of 26 lifts. Buller Ski Lifts also has Australia’s
highest capacity snowmaking system, along with a 15 vehicle grooming
fleet that maintains 80 km of groomed trails. The recently constructed
$600,000 Snow Kat Garage provides excellent facilities for maintaining
the valuable grooming machines. This infrastructure and equipment
means Mt Buller can reliably produce a premier surface for skiers
throughout the season.
New skiing trails and snow play areas have been opened.
In 1997, the aerial jump site was constructed in time for Mt Buller
to host the first annual World Cup freestyle event. In 1998, Buller
Ski Lifts established Australia’s first snow tubing park and
recently completed the new Tram Stop tubing park, recognising the
increasing popularity of Mt Buller as a sightseeing and snow play
venue.
